Prix du brut: des inquiétudes jusqu'a quand?
Les prix du pétrole ont été très volatils au cours de ces dernières années et la tendance générale a été à la hausse - de $45 le baril en décembre 2004, à $90/$110 en 2011. The time for Africa to capitalise on the crisis is right now
Every few decades there emerge certain events that could transform the destiny of nations and/or continents. The Industrial Revolution in Europe (18th century), the Meiji restoration in Japan (1868), the Great Depression which changed the global power dynamics (1930s), the debt crisis in Latin America which took it back several decades economically (1980s), the development of production networks across east Asia which strengthened and unified the region (1990s) and the balance of payment crisis and ensuing economic liberalisation in India (1991) are a few of such moments. For Africa the financial crisis of 2008 to 2009 is an event of such magnitude and the region could either use it to leverage itself economically or let itself be bogged down by it. Africa was one of the few regions where the primary effects of the financial crisis were less significant. Of course, no area in the world has escaped from the secondary impact and Africa is no exception.
