Employee Welfare

Employees are the prized asset of any organisation. At GBOT, we go well beyond words in this regard: we implement ongoing actions aligned with employee welfare. As part of its overall everyday organisational life, GBOT provides numerous facilities and organises events (see below for a brief on a few of them), which contribute to employee welfare and sense of belonging. Among others: a round-the-clock insurance cover to all employees against accidents, celebration of employees’ birthdays, training in first-aid and occupational safety and health, introductory courses in French language for its expats not acquainted with it, parties whereby families of employees can participate (besides the traditional end-of-year main party), sharing the joys of festivals such as Divali and Christmas and adopting policies that give every employee a sense of being cared after without being paternalistic.

Events Conducted:

  • Pot Luck: A gathering of GBOT employees and their close ones at the Company’s guest house for an evening of food and drink. An event like this helps foster relationships and understanding among the staff and their families coming from various geographical and cultural backgrounds.
  • French Language Training for Expatriates - This initiative helped gear expatriates not acquainted with French to comprehend and communicate at least the very basics of the French language, a must for any person living in Mauritius.
  • Training on Derivatives  Training is a continuous process and a refresher course always helps us stay in touch with basics as well as know the latest in the markets affecting us. With this background, GBOT held a training/refresher course conducted by faculty from FTKMC held at Domaine Les Pailles This is aligned with the philosophy of a learning culture so that all employees, irrespective of position in the organisation, are able to make sense of the basics of financial markets, derivatives and the business strategy.
  • First Aid Training –GBOT always endeavours to promote Health and Safety at the workplace. It is the belief that equipping all employees with the basic skills of First Aid will contribute creating a safer workplace for all its employees.
  • Team Building Exercise - Team GBOT went for a full day of self-exploration and team activities geared towards bettering mutual understanding and team spirit.
  • Launching of Leadership Development Programme for HODs and Head of Section (Operations) –GBOT believes that leadership should permeate to all levels of the organisation. Hence, a Leadership Development Programme was conducted for the Heads of Department and the Officers in Charge of Operations by way of an off-the-workplace one-day workshop. The programme is meant to span over at least 6 months during its first phase and will be modelled on the concept of Action Learning Set facilitated by an external Consultant
